Accusations of se*xual assault have emerged against Jay Z, with claims from an alleged victim who states that both the rapper and Sean “Diddy” Combs assaulted her at an MTV Video Music Awards afterparty in 2000.
The alleged victim, represented by Texas attorney Tony Buzbee, has prompted Jay Z to issue a denial of the allegations in an official statement at the time of this report.
Initially, the complaint filed in October identified only Combs as the defendant. However, NBC News has revealed that the lawsuit has since been modified to include Jay Z as well.
The woman, referred to as Jane Doe, reported that she was offered a drink at the afterparty in New York. Following this, she described feeling “woozy” and “lightheaded” before claiming she was se*xually assaulted in a bedroom by both celebrities.
At the time of the alleged incident, Jay Z, whose legal name is Shawn Corey Carter, was rumored to be starting a relationship with Beyoncé. In a 2013 interview with Oprah Winfrey, Beyoncé revealed, “We were friends for a year and a half before we went on any dates.
We were on the phone for a year and a half, and that foundation is so important for a relationship. Just to have someone who you just like is so important, and someone [who] is honest.”
Beyoncé also noted in an interview with Seventeen magazine that she met Carter when she was 18 years old, suggesting their first encounter took place between September 1999 and August 2000.
Before his relationship with Beyoncé, Jay Z was rumored to have dated singer Blu Cantrell. The Richest reported that the two were casually involved during the 1990s, and after their breakup, Cantrell congratulated Jay Z and Beyoncé on the arrival of their first child.
In the late 1990s, the Roc Nation founder had a brief relationship with Charli Baltimore, a lawyer-turned-musician, who had previously dated Notorious B.I.G., as noted by The Richest.
In 2000, Jay Z was also said to have dated actress, singer, and writer Rosario Dawson. Their relationship reportedly ended as his feelings for Beyoncé began to develop.
Prior to his romance with Beyoncé, Jay Z was linked to both Aaliyah and designer Rachel Roy. His alleged affair with Roy ignited controversy, with speculation that it occurred while he was married to Beyoncé.
The Richest indicated that this rumored affair was thought to have triggered the notorious elevator incident involving Jay Z and Beyoncé’s sister, Solange Knowles, at the 2014 Met Gala.
Beyoncé appeared to address the speculation in her Lemonade album, where she seemingly referenced Roy by singing about “Becky with the good hair.”
